On the way from the Ruby River Hotel to the Phan Boi Chau Night Market, we pass the Quach Thi Trang Roundabout. It is a huge roundabout before the Benh Thanh Market. Name giving was the 15-year-old student Quach Thi Trang who was shot in protests against the government of President Ngo Dinh Diem in 1963.

The night market begins as soon as the Benh Thanh Market closes its gates, usually at 18.00.
Benh Thanh Market

In 1912 a fire destroyed the previous market. Afterward one set up the main building in French colonial style, after. Inside, 3000 retailers offer clothing, jewelry, souvenirs and everything necessary for everyday life. Many food stalls provide the people with food.
Phan Boi Chau Night Market
The night market takes place in Phan Boi Chau and Le Thanh Ton street. Shortly before nightfall, a hectic hustle and bustle start, because all the stalls are rebuilt and dismantled every day. The rich offer is almost confusing. Between the sales booth, you find a lot of small food stalls or mini-restaurants. We stroll through the streets for a while and watch traffic and people.

More InformationAfterward, we look for a small restaurant. The meat grilled on hot stones appeals to us.

For the drinks, we tested the flexibility of the Vietnamese. On our tour to Ha Long Bay, we have learned that there is a quite good Vietnamese white wine. So we ask if there is one available and what it costs.
For wine, it is worth to ask for the price since it is generally very expensive in Vietnam. $ 20.- to $ 30.- for a bottle are not a rarity. We get $ 8.- as an answer, so we agree.

We can then observe an employee swinging on his scooter and disappearing. When he reappears after about 10 minutes, he has a bottle of wine with him. So we have learned, there is everything! If one does not have it itself, then he gets it from acquaintances or your friends. Anyway, the idea to have a wine was not very good. There have only small tumblers and the wine was not cooled.
An elegantly dressed gentleman takes a seat beside us. 2 boys sit opposite him. When the food arrives, there is no holding them back anymore. Later, we are talking with this gentleman and it turns out that he is a businessman from Dubai.
We ask him if they are his sons. He smiles and denies. Then he tells us if someone is begging, he does not give money. For this, he invites the begging children for a meal. Since we have seen ourselves with how much hot hunger the two have eaten, we find this an excellent idea.

After we have still bought a couple of silk scarfs as souvenirs, we go back to the Ruby River Hotel.
