Panoramapunkt

The Panoramapunkt is an observation platform in the Kollhoff-Tower at Potsdamer Platz No 1. We arrive by metro from Alexanderplatz.

Potsdamer Platz

In the 1920s, Potsdamer Platz was the busiest square in Europe. It was the heart of Berlin! In the Second World War, it was turned into a rubble field. After the construction of the wall, it was a wasteland. But after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it rose like a phoenix from the ashes again. In ten years one built a new quarter in whose center is the Potsdamer Platz. Berlin has recovered its heart!

The new Potsdamer Platz is architecturally completely redesigned. Modern hotels, offices and residential buildings form a new backdrop. U-, S- and normal trains run underground. This makes the square again the central traffic node in the city.

The hundred-meter-high Kollhoff-Tower, with its brick architecture in the style of former high-rise buildings in New York, stands between the two glass towers of the Atrium Tower and the Bahntower with the Sony Center behind it.

The Panoramapunkt is on the 24th and 25th floor of the Kollhoff-Tower and combines of view terrace, café, and exhibition.

Europe’s fastest elevator takes us to the 24th floor in just 20 seconds. Here is the all-glass-paneled Panoramacafé, furnished in the puristic style of the 1930s. Already here a spectacular view over Berlin opens up.

In the Panoramacafé, we meet Mandy Günther, the responsible for Marketing and Communication of the Panoramapunkt. She gives us a brief overview and provides us with extensive information about the history of the square and the house.

The view terraces, centrally located between Alexanderplatz and Kurfürstendamm offer a fantastic view.

Almost all important buildings of Berlin are in direct visual contact. Looking north and east, the city stretches from the German Reichstag via the Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust monument to the Alexanderplatz with the television tower. Potsdamer Platz and Leipziger Platz are right at your feet.

To the other direction, you see the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in the distance.

In the nearer environment, we see the Philharmonie with the Chamber Music Hall, the state library, and the music theater. Right next to the Kollhoff Tower, the Sony Center presents itself from above.

Interesting is the sight of the Bahntower, which is like a beehive from this perspective.

In addition to a part of the wall, an exhibition shows historical photos of the Potsdamer Platz, starting with the 1920s until the modern era. They reflect the entire history of the city over the past hundred years.

The sunroof on the 25th floor is considered an insider tip for the most beautiful sunset in Berlin. We can highly recommend Berlin travelers to visit the Panoramapunkt.
