For quite some time, we want to go to Alsace. Finally, the opportunity arises and we set out together with friends to spend an extended weekend there.
In Itterswiller, we found a very nice and cozy hotel, the Hotel Kieffer. Both the hotel and the village lie in the center of Alsace, so it is easy to visit the most beautiful places from here.

The Alsace is the northeastern region of France and is divided in the départements Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin. The capital is Strasbourg. To the north, the Alsace extends to the line Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe. In the east, the region is bordered by the Rhine and in the south by the border around Basel to Switzerland.
Throughout history, Alsace has repeatedly changed its affiliation with France and Germany. Most residents also speak both languages.
Alsace is famous for its picturesque villages and excellent wine. Already the Romans have appreciated the latter.
Hotel Kieffer
The nice Hotel Kieffer has grown in the course of time and several building parts extended. The individual periods join themselves together by the uniform balcony design and the half-timbering ambiance. An excellent breakfast buffet will ensure a successful start to the day.
The hotel has a winery with wine cellar. Here you can taste the wines at a small bar, during a wine tasting. In bright sunshine, it is also a pleasure to enjoy one of these delicious drops outdoors.
Itterswiller
The village Itterswiller lies along a former Roman road. It is believed that the area was already populated in Roman times.
Around the church, one harvests the grapes of the famous “Fruehmess” wines. On the exposed slopes in the area around the bell tower, the Rieslings and Pinot Gris express themselves particularly well. The “Fruehmess”-site, a future 1er Cru, promises fine wines.
Unfortunately, it is a little too early in the year yet so that we cannot admire the brilliant colors of flowers on the balconies yet. For the splendid floral work, Itterswiller received the highest award the “4 flowers” label.
Three restaurants, which of course offer the Alsatian specialties like Baeckeoffe and Choucroute, provide the culinary welfare. But caution is appropriate. The portions are huge.
Though the election in France prevails, it is pleasant to see almost no election posters in the villages and towns. A poster of every party hangs only at the city hall.
Around the village are the vineyards and in the distance, you can already see the mountains of the Vosges. A paradise for recreation seekers for hiking and biking.
