And again, we are on the way to explore new countries. We have chosen a longer but cheap flight from Frankfurt to Dushanbe in Tajikistan. It offers us the possibility to explore Saint Petersburg for one day. But first things first:
At noon we take the train to Frankfurt, where our airplane takes off around 18.40. Not to Saint Petersburg, but first to Riga in Latvia.

More InformationFrom Frankfurt, the flight goes directly to the Baltic Sea, where we reach the sea near Gdansk. We fly past Kaliningrad along the coast and have a good view of Klaipeda in Lithuania, which we would have liked to visit, as it should be a beautiful destination.
With the setting sun, we land around 22:15 in Riga. We have booked a hotel at the airport since our connecting flight from Riga to Saint Petersburg starts at 7:50 am.
The Sky High Hotel is within few minutes on foot from the airport. It offers all the amenities we need for few hours of sleep. We decided in favor of a hotel since we did not feel like spending the night in the waiting hall at the airport.
And the next morning a full day of sightseeing expects us before we will continue our flight in the middle of the night.
Our plane airplane to Saint Petersburg starts on schedule the next morning. From above, we have a fantastic view of Riga, which we visited a year before.
Then we cross the Peipus Lake and the Narva, which forms the border to the EU and thus between Estonia and Russia.
The oil shale mining in this region is also clearly visible.
Shortly thereafter, our plane airplane lands at 9:10 in Saint Petersburg.
