At the Plaza de la Glorieta de Espana and the shut-off Paseo del Teniente Flomesta, the organizers and key employees of the city of Murcia await the arrival of the sardine.

In the meantime, press and television staff tried to get brief interviews with the important personalities. Daniel Robles briefly introduced us to Jesús F. Pacheco Méndez, city councilor responsible for tourism and culture of the city of Murcia.
When everyone was rushing to the bank of the Rio Segura, we knew that the arrival was imminent. A galley rowed by women approached the stone sardine monument in the river. From the other direction came three rowing boats. In one sat a woman holding a large sardine.

The galley briefly stopped at the monument and deposited a bouquet of flowers. Then they all rowed to the shore on the opposite side.

When the women appeared with the sardine on the square, it became a bit hectic. But in the end, we noticed that the sardine was handed over to the mayor of Murcia with great cheers.

As you know, Murcia is located inland and every year the sardine is handed over to the city of Murcia from another place on the coast. In 2018, it was San Pedro del Pinatar.
