The pandemic limited our travel in 2020. So we, like many others, concentrated on our own home.
Planning and history
Everything starts very harmlessly but then develops into a larger project.
At the end of the summer, we had to replace our parasol. So we get ourselves a new one in the DIY shop. A short time later, we find that our 10-year-old patio furniture has also reached the end of its life cycle. At the purchase of the garden umbrella, we saw garden furniture made of polyrattan next door. We liked it, and so we bought one of the sofa sets.
In case of rain and bad weather, we have to cover it with a plastic tarp. If we want to use the sofa set, we have to remove the tarp again. The result is that we also buy a pavilion, in which we can leave the seating set untouched even in bad weather. It is of aluminum, and the outer walls consist of a fly screen. There are large sliding doors on all four sides.
Unfortunately, we did not consider that terraces with a slight incline are being built in our region so that the water can run off when it rains, even for hydro-active pavements.
As a result, the pavilion has a slope, and the doors are constantly rolling downwards. Strong wind pushes them back in the other direction. We can avoid this by using magnets, but basically, the problem remains. So we decided to redesign the terrace as well, as this is no longer particularly attractive. We wanted to have a WPC terrace installed. In the end, it became a BPC (bamboo) terrace, as it is easier to maintain and more stable in color.
In the meantime, we have encountered a new issue. The seating set shall not remain in the open or in the pavilion in winter. The garage is not necessarily an ideal space for this either. The result is that we also need a tool shed. One is found in the DIY shop quickly, but we need a foundation for it.

In 2020 we bought a cheap frame pool, which also offered us a lot of fun and relaxation in hot weather. For this, too, we need a solid foundation that we also want to build based on WPC. But every manufacturer advises us against it and does not want to take on any warranty. During a phone call with an architect friend of ours, she tells us that she once had such a pool, but for some reason, it toppled over and caused a decent flood. Since our property is a little higher than that of our neighbors, this remark puzzled us. We decided to buy a 1.5 m deep steel wall pool that can be sunk 2/3 in the ground. Thus, this can not topple or leak.

Since this pool is being built almost directly on the property line with our neighbors, we want to set up a privacy fence made of WPC. We had built the existing wall by ourselves. However, we didn’t design it for a 1.8 m high privacy shield to withstand strong winds. So this wall has to be rebuilt as well. The wall at right angles, which closes off the property, has to be rebuilt, partly equipped with a privacy wall. Now we can add a row of bricks to align the terrace flush with the floor inside the house. It was wrongly conceived by the prefabricated house construction company when building the house and can be corrected now.
With a few exceptions, we will replant the garden completely. An additional layer of soil of approx. 20 cm has to be applied. That’s why we decide to install automatic irrigation right away. For the lawn, we provide submerged spray nozzles with MP rotators from Hunter. The bushes and plant beds get drip irrigation. The four necessary irrigation circles are controlled by a Hunter X-Core control unit with a climate sensor.

Cistern and pool feed the irrigation system. A fully automatic level regulation controls the water levels and compensates them if necessary.
The terrace and the planting beds get separate circuits for lighting. A small barbecue area receives two additional sockets, as does the pavilion. These circuits can operate with a radio remote control.

Due to the pandemic, the supply of raw materials and technical accessories became more and more difficult.

The backwash water runs into the cistern. If we decide to purchase a heat pump, the necessary power and water lines, including the ball valves, have already been installed and laid.

00:35:19 On June 9th, we experienced an emotionally very gratifying moment when we were able to test the pool for the first time, even if it was still in the middle of the construction site.

It is designed for six circuits so that we can set up two additional ones if necessary. The sprinkler system works at 5 am. So everything runs fully automatically.

00:45:08 The installation of the sockets and the wireless switches is complete. And the lighting of the terrace and the garden creates a pleasant atmosphere.

00:46:46 In the meantime, light metal end profiles are installed on the edges of the terrace. As a final task, the gap between the pool and the technical box closed with concrete palisades and a stainless steel cover on top. The space in between is filled with Misapor and also serves noise protection and thermal insulation.
