The landmarked port of Symi in the Aegean Sea, also called Gialos, nestles around a narrow horseshoe-shaped bay which offers the ferry few opportunities for maneuvering.

More InformationMost of the 3000 islanders live in the main place of the island of the same name. Many of the houses in the Venetian style nestle picturesquely on the hillside.
Symi was once famous for its sponge divers, but it is still very little left. One still can buy sponges as a souvenir in the harbor. In the tavernas it is still quite busy, as the dance-loving elderly group shows.
Symi has no own drinking water. The water has to be delivered by tankers from Rhodes several times a week.
The narrow streets on steep hillsides are always a good photo scene.
