Lake Neusiedl - Burgenland - Burgenland

The Lake Neusiedl is the second largest step lake in Central Europe, shared between Austria and Hungary.

8000 years ago the area around the lake was already populated. Center of the region is Neusiedl am See. In the 13th Century it was destroyed by the Mongols and later by the Turks and Kurucs.

The great lake shore and a sailing center are located in the middle of a reed zone. Additional schools for Kite and windsurfing attract a lot of tourists every year.

The Lake Neusiedl is part of the UNESCO world heritage.
