The Lake Neusiedl is the second largest step lake in Central Europe, shared between Austria and Hungary.

8000 years ago the area around the lake was already populated. Center of the region is Neusiedl am See. In the 13th Century it was destroyed by the Mongols and later by the Turks and Kurucs.
