Parc de la Ciutadella
Originally it was the place of the citadel of Barcelona. The citadel, built by King Philip V, was the largest star-shaped citadel of Europe. The citadel was destroyed in 1868. It was the hated symbol of the central government. What remained was the chapel, the governor palace and the arsenal which is headquarters of the Catalan parliament today.

A lake was laid out with exotic plants and aquatic animals in the park. It is overtopped by a splendid waterfall, the Cascada, built by Fontserè i Mestre.
