The double-decker bus brings us to Burj Khalifa. The nice bus driver indicates that we have reached the correct stop. We look a bit surprised, because the building still seems very far away, but we get off.
The ticket for the visitor platform is fixed to a particular time. It is 20 min before 10 o’clock, when we stand in front of the Dubai Mall. Direction indicators show us the way to the Burj Khalifa.
The way leads through the entire mall (no to miss any articles for shopping :-)). Although we walk fast, we manage to reach the lift just at 10 o’clock.

More InformationLater we learned that there would have been also another possibility. From the airport with the Dubai Metro (Skytrain) to the Burj Khalifa Metro Station.
An underground tunnel leads from the Metro to the elevators (Metrolink). However, the way would be just as long, only that there are electric roller belts.
Burj Khalifa
The elevator brings us in 55 seconds to the viewing platform on the 124th floor. At this time, the visitor rush keeps within limits. The view is breathtaking. From above, the city appears to be in a light haze. Later we learn that this is mostly the case.
However it is not haze, but fine desert sand that is in the air. The Burj Al Arab, a 7 star hotel, making it one of the most comfortable but also the most expensive hotels in the world, can be recognized in the distance.
Dubai offers many superlatives. We stand on the the world’s tallest building. and look down at small lake in which the installations of the Dubai Fountain. The Dubai Fountain is it the highest fountain of the world, approx. 180 m high. The daily light and sound show starts at 6 p.m. Unfortunately, we have to be at the airport at this time.
The Burj Khalifa, also known as one of the movie-sets for Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol with Tom Cruise, is in the new district Downtown Dubai.
A correspondingly large number of skyscrapers can be seen from above. In the last video setting from the visitor’s terrace you can see the Dubai Mall from above. One can estimate its size quite well.
Only 10% of the envisaged construction projects in Dubai have been realized. 90% still are in the realization or in the planning stage.
Driving force for the further development of Dubai is sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He wants to prepare Dubai for the post-oil era. Thus it is not surprising that the cityscape of Dubai is dominated by construction sites.
Next to the Dubai Mall you find the Souk Al Bahar, which shall contain a modern Gold Souk. Now that we have seen enough from above, we want to explore the mall. It also includes a few attractions.
Dubai Mall
The first attraction that we visit is a gigantic marine aquarium. At the opening it holds the Guinness World Record for the ‘World’s Largest Acrylic Panel’.
A 270-degree acrylic walk through tunnel leads through the aquarium, so you watch the fish from different perspectives.
Another highlight is a 24 meter high water cascade. While we are filming, we notice another film crew.
Of course, we want to talk with them for a little while. The friendly team members tell us that they make a corporate video about Dubai for the Tourism Authority. They were also very proud of their Red cameras, what we can easily understand. They’re filming in 5K.
We do not want to disturb them any longer and visit the ice rink of Olympic size.
When leaving the mall, we see a few sports cars the top price category in front of it. Anyone who is anyone in Dubai needs such a thing.
