Our flight from Bangkok to Hanoi has proven to be a pure stroke of luck. Not only the weather but also the flight route was perfect. It led us past some prominent points.

We start from the old Don Muang Airport in Bangkok. Through the morning haze one has a wonderful view of the skyline.
The flight takes us to the north to Ayutthaya the first capital of Thailand. Even the temples are well recognizable from the airplane.

Across forested mountain ranges and plateaus we continue towards Vientiane.

Next, Si Thep with its round water ditches stabs us into the eye. Si Thep existed already in the 5th century and was presumably built by Indian immigrants.
The architecture shows strong Hindu features which are also mixed with typical Khmer styles.

The next flight section leads above Isan, the northeastern region of Thailand. Soon the Mekong attracts our attention.
Vientiane, the capital of the democratic People’s Republic of Laos, lies under us like in the picture book.

Afterwards we can see the Nam Ngum dam, which forms the livelihood for a million people in Laos.

The brown plain of Khoang, the plain of stone jars, appears. The stone jars found here are up to 2000 year old and have a weight of up to 6 tons, presumably burial urns.
Hundreds of these stone urns are distributed over various sites, some of which are not yet accessible. In this areas there are still many bombs from the Laotian Civil War from the US Air Force.

We overfly already northern Vietnam with its mountains. The Red River appears, on whose shore lies Hanoi.

The descent for landing takes place over the rice fields of the Red River Delta, scattered with numerous villages.
It is visible how strong the economy is aligned with the agricultural sector. The fields are located directly behind the houses of the villages.

We land safely on the most modern airport of Vietnam, the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
