For our bus trip from Sukhothai to Chiang Mai, we don’t have to go to the bus station in the new town of Sukhothai. This time, we can take the bus near the fresh market in Sukhothai History Park. The bus stop is on Charodwithitong Road, about 100 m west of the bridge, 50 m west of 7-Eleven. The previous day we buy a ticket and also learn that the bus stops on the other side of the road.
The next day the bus arrives on time. We drive across flat land and a relatively well-developed road in a westward direction to Tak. In Tak, the bus stops at the bus terminal and picks up new passengers.

A four-lane motorway leads from Tak to the north. The next stopover is in Lampang. The route proceeds also here on a flat area.

Fields, meadows, forests and villages alternate. A higher mountain chain can be seen in the east. From Lampang, we continue to the north-east. Here the highway winds steeply over the wooded slopes.

More InformationOn the other side of the mountain chain, the motorway runs down into a flat valley again. Here lies our destination Chiang Mai.

We arrive at the bus terminal in the east of the city. A minibus, typical for the area, serves as a taxi and takes us to our hotel.

The bus trip from Sukhothai to Chiang Mai, approx. 300 km, takes about 5 hours.
