After a few days in Hoi An, our next destination is Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon, as the city is still called.
The hotel shuttle of the Royal Riverside Hotel in Hoi An takes us to the airport in Da Nang.
Da Nang has about a million inhabitants and is the third largest city in Vietnam, after Ho Chi Min City and Hanoi.
We quickly reach Da Nang and crossed the Song Cam Le on the Cau Tien Son bridge and then turn right into 2 Thang 9 (September 2, Vietnam’s Independence Day).
There are sports stadiums, golf clubs, hotels, and restaurants. We then turn into the Duy Tan, which leads straight to the airport.
The airport was the northernmost air base of the Americans in the Vietnam war.
It played an important role in the supply for the American defense forces during the attack on Khe Sanh and the Tet offensive.
Flight from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City
During take-off, we have a nice view of Da Nang and the bay in front. In the further course, the view always clouded by dense clouds, but in some gaps, we can recognize the underlying country.
Some threatening thunderclouds pile up.
Only as we approach the Mekong Delta the visibility gets better. We can recognize the meandering river bends of the Mekong. A tangle of canals runs through the country.

The airplane flies in a big bend around Ho Chi Minh City and approaches the airport first from the south and then from the west.
Here you find extensive rice fields which are increasingly displaced by the suburbs. Today, the airport lies in a densely populated area.
Transfer to the hotel
The taxi takes us via broad streets to the center. Due to the countless motor scooters, the streets convey a highly populated impression. Many people wear breathing masks.
This is a constant reminder of the failure of the transport industry and the responsible authorities to keep the air clean.
Beside ancient temples, we see a series of modern skyscrapers. The distance from the airport to the hotel is about 7 km.
We arrive at the Ruby River Hotel in the Nguyen Thai Binh Street, a side street of the Pho Duc Chinh. It is close to the Benh Thanh Market, the central market of the city.
