Approximately 80 km from Bukhara in the northeast direction, right next to the Navoi International Airport, lies Malik Sardoba.
Malik Sardoba

Malik Sardoba is a water reservoir fed by a subterranean canal of the Zeravshan River. It served as the water supply of the at an angle opposite caravansary Raboti Malik, founded as a fortress.
Abdullah Khan II from the Shaybanid Dynasty, who ruled from 1583 to 1598, built about 400 Sardobas, water reservoirs covered by a dome, all directly at the old silk road.

In Navoi we turn north, leave the Zeravshan Valley and drive through the Kysylkum Desert towards Nurota. Kysylkum Desert is 16th largest desert in the world. Nature is extremely barren.
Only now and then one sees some houses and here and there a herd of goats. In summer temperatures rise to between 50 and 60 degrees Celsius.
Nurata
Nurata is a famous pilgrimage place. One says that Prophet Mohammed’s son-in-law Hazrat Ali drove his staff into the ground here and thus formed the Chashma Spring. Today hundreds of holy fish swim in the spring.

They live off the mineral-laden waters of the spring and canals feeding it. Several times we hear that the sacred fish were poisonous. In front of the Chashma Spring is a mosque.

Behind lies the hill where once was the fortress of Alexander the Great, who founded Nurata. Here his troops prepared for the storm of Sarmakand.

After lunch, we drive approx. 60 km through the desert until we reach a yurt camp near Aydar Lake.
Aydar Lake
Aydarkul, the Aydar Lake is fed by Syr Darya, which we already saw on the flight from Tashkent to Khiva. It is an artificial lake created by the damming of Sydarja. At large high tide quantities an overflow forms to Uzbekistan to the Kysylkum desert.
In the meantime, the lake is 180 km long and 32 km wide. Here one catches between 760 and 2000 tons of fish every year.

Since the yurt camp does not lie on the shore of the lake. So during the journey, we only see the lake from the distance.
