It’s an uplifting feeling to watch the sunrise in Angkor Wat, especially when the first rays of the sun appear behind the towers of this unique temple. The insects lash waves in the small lake in front of the temple and the first birds are buzzing around.

In the 12 century this original Hindu shrine was the absolute center of the Khmer Empire. The former city reached an area of more than 1000 km ² and up to a million people lived here. Numerous channels connected to a unique irrigation system, form the basis for a food surplus, which made this massive investment possible.

The decline of Angkor Wat took place, since too many resources were sacrificed for the temples of the city. Tens of thousands of people were assigned only for the temples. As drought and then floods prevented the adequate nutrition of the population and even collapsed the channel system, the end of the empire was foreseeable.

Today, it is no longer the population of Angkor Wat who stand in front of the temple, but tourists and photographer. Nevertheless, the crowds remind of earlier times.

Who wants to set up his photographic or film tripod at the edge of the lake, must certainly be there before 5:00 in the morning. As of 5:00 it is only possible to take pictures from the 2nd row. In the 1st row one runs into danger to be pushed into the water and constantly has the clicking of a camera from a distance of 5 cm in the ear. A Russian put a fellow countryman in their place, since he only pushes and supports himself on the people in front of him.

Romance is to enjoy only in the video!
