Matadero
Matadero is the former slaughterhouse of Madrid. The extensive grounds were decommissioned in 1996 and converted into an arts and cultural center. It offers enough space to perform also greater art experiments.

In addition to an archive and a room for meetings and lectures, you find a wide variety of technical equipment, such as video or audio laboratories.
Some of the halls are still preserved in their original state. The sparsely lit halls with the former boxes for the animals remember their bad fate.

More InformationThe water tank was transformed to an archive and memorial for plants which were found in the vicinity of Matadero today. This is supplemented by works for alternative landscaping and ecological activities. Other areas are dedicated to the visual arts and music, or to experience reading.

We visit Matadero on a hot sunny day. Various plants and flowers are offered for the sale.

Many of the visitors prefer to spend their time in the shade of the freely movable awnings or in the bars housed in the different halls.

Only a few artists give samples of their talents.

Lucía Diaz Uceda is a Clinical psychologist and music therapist in Medical Center Liclinic in Madrid. Already during her PhD she developed a system, which redefines the connection between musical emotion and the human reaction to music.

Her successful work as music therapist and lecturer in musicotherapy is completed by her work as composer, singer and songwriter. The concerts of Lucia have a therapeutic touch and redefine the atmosphere on stage and the treatment of art.
