Barrio de Nueva Espana in the district Chamartin lies in the northwest of Madrid and is bounded by the arterial road Paseo de la Castellana in the West. Some architectural magnificent buildings of modern age are located here.

Nuevos Ministerios and Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
On the one hand, here you find a modern government complex, Nuevos Ministerios as well as a number of office buildings, including the Torre Europa.

More InformationOn the other side of the street is Madrid’s most famous football stadium, the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu of Real Madrid, the home of the Royal Blues.

Torres Puerta de Europa
In the distance you see already the Torres Puerta de Europa on Plaza de Castilla. The Obelisco de La Caja adorns the middle this square. It was donated to the city of Madrid by Caja Madrid on occasion of the 300th anniversary of its foundation. Later Caja Madrid merged with other savings banks to form Bankia. The bronze column is 92 meters high and has a diameter of 2 m.

The Gate of Europe towers (Torres Puerta de Europa) are decorated with the logos of the Bankia-group and of the real estate group Realia. The two 114 m high and 15 degrees inclined skyscrapers became a symbol of Spain’s modern architecture, but also a symbol of the financial crisis of 2008.
Cuatro Torres Business Area – CTBA
In the background you see the Cuatro Torres Business Area (Four Towers Business Area) with the 4 most modern skyscrapers Madrid. They were built in 2008 on the former training ground of Real Madrid. They are called Torre Caja Madrid, Torre de Cristal, Torre PwC and Torre Espacio. The Caja Madrid Tower is 245 meters high and is one of the 10 tallest buildings in Europe.

The partly snow-covered peaks of the Sierra de Guadarrama can be seen in the distance. Since it was a very hot afternoon, we have waived a closer visit to the Cuatro Torres and prefered drinking a coffee and mineral water.
