A highlight of the annual Oktoberfest – the Munich Beer festival – is the Grand Entry of the Oktoberfest Landlords and Breweries. The festive parade is the official prelude of the opening of the Oktoberfest and always takes place on first Saturday of the Oktoberfest.

In a big parade the landlords move along with their families in flower-decorated carriages, accompanied by adorned floats with waitresses and bands of tents through the city to the festival ground on the Theresienwiese.

More InformationNeedless to say, that the Munich breweries with their wonderful horse-drawn drays are part of the parade; the drays with decorated beer barrels are drawn by harnessed horse teams.
The gentle horses – mostly Belgian and Percheron draft horses – with their precious harnesses are always a feast for the eyes.

After the Grand Entry -at 12:0 – is the tapping of the first keg of Oktoberfest beer by the Mayor of Munich in the Schottenhamel Tent. With the slogan “O’zapft is” (it’ tapped), the Oktoberfest, the biggest beer festival in the world, is officially opened.
