The Costume and Riflemen’s Parade has a long tradition. In 1835 it took place for the first time for the silver wedding anniversary of King Ludwig I. of Bavarians and Princess Therese. Today it is one of the highlights of the Oktoberfest and one of the biggest costume parades in the world.
Over 8,000 participants from around the world are at the parade on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest here. The 3-mile long procession leads from the Maximilianeum through Munich’s city center to the festival ground of the Oktoberfest.

The Munich Kindl – Munich Child – mustn’t of course be missing in his gilt-edged black monk’s habit and the Oktoberfest beer mug. The Munich Kindl is the coat of arms of the city of Munich and has become a mascot for the Oktoberfest.
