Pak Khlong Talat is Bangkok’s largest flower market. It is opened 24 hours a day and offers fresh flowers from the whole country. In addition to flowers, fruit and vegetables are also sold.

Pak Khlong Talat is located at Chak Phet street and in the adjacent side streets nearby the Phra-Phutthayotfa bridge.

During the time of Rama I (1782-1809) it was still a floating market. Hence the name, which means “market at the mouth of the channel.” Under Rama V, it was transformed into a fish market. 60 years ago it finally received its present function.

We were surprised by the huge offer of flowers and asked us: “Who’s going to buy so many flowers in this region, where already everything grows and proliferates ?”. The answer is relatively simple: Hotels and temples. Since the market is a wholesale market, many florists buy ahead for the daily needs. Garland sellers also stock up on flowers here.

More InformationWe watch the hustle and bustle and the artfully designed floral arrangements, before we go to King Rama I Monument. The monument is located in front of the Phra-Phutthayotfa Bridge (Memorial Bridge), which was opened by Rama VII in 1932 and commemorates Rama I.

Opposite the huge square is the the Wat Ratchaburana. After the founding of Bangkok, the leftover Buddha statues of the country were stored here. During the war it was heavily damaged by bombing and rebuilt by the abbot Phra Khuna Charawat and the local population from 1960 – 1962.

Via some side streets, we return to the flower market, where we can watch a restorer repairing a shrine.
Later in the evening we go past the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall of Dusit Palace, the summer residence of King Rama V and Rama VI.
