On April 30th, 2013, the for the time being the last Queen’s Day, the solemn throne change was carried out in Amsterdam.
After 33 years, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands handed over the responsibility to her eldest son Willem-Alexander.

The abdication with the ceremonial signing of the documents by Beatrix, Willem-Alexander,his wife Maxima and the members of the Cabinet took place in the royal palace.

With chants – Bea,bedankt(Thank you, Bea)- one says goodbye to the popular queen and starts cheers for Willem-Alexander and Maxima.

King Willen-Alexander, Queen Máxima and her daughters HRH Princess of Orange Catharina-Amalia, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane showed themselves next to Princess Beatrix.

In the late afternoon, a number of tall ships and other ships gathered in the port of Amsterdam to form a dignified setting for the barge tour of the royal family.
