On our journey by train from Barcelona to El Escorial, we have to change trains in Madrid. To start our journey early in the morning, we have booked a hotel near the train station Barcelona Sants.
EXPO Hotel Barcelona
Shortly after our arrival in Barcelona, we have already checked in at the Expo Hotel Barcelona, because it is just a short walk from the train station.

Besides the convenient location, the hotel offers even further amenities. The furnishings are modern, the technique works very well (particularly with regard to the Internet connection). On the roof, there is a restaurant with a terrace which provides a wonderful view of the city. As our stay is very short, we intend to stay once again in the Expo Hotel on our way back to Germany to enjoy the beautiful view.
Restaurant Eden
On the way from the station, we have noticed restaurant Eden, a small restaurant with Catalan kitchen, that has also tables outside. It is just 1 minute from the hotel entrance.

The food was very good, the wine even better.
From Barcelona Sants to Madrid Atocha railway station

The next morning we reach the station on time, what is not difficult since we only need to cross the station forecourt. Time and again, we are impressed by the vast underground stations in Spain and intend to film a little more on our return.

We ordered the tickets already in advance via the Internet. The three and a half hour train ride to Madrid runs smoothly. We notice that nature still is not as developed as a year before. This is not that surprising since the weather was cold and wet this spring.

More InformationFrom Madrid to San Lorenzo de El Escorial
The Renfe ticket from Barcelona to Madrid includes a free ride on the regional train in Madrid and the surrounding area. We only need to buy a ticket at the machine by stating the Renfe ticket number and get it issued for free. We are very pleased with.
At the Atocha station, we go 2 levels downs and wait until the regional train arrives on schedule. We pass the impressive Quatro Torres in Business District of Madrid, that we had already filmed a year before.
The journey continues through the suburbs of Madrid and we pass the Casa de Campo, once the hunting ground for the Spanish kings. Even from the train, we can see the deer grazing. After about half an hour’s drive, we arrive at San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

The low clouds do not bode well.
