Our journey takes us back to southern Germany, specifically to Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria.

We pass through Trier along the Moselle before entering the Saar Valley at Konz. We then travel through Saarburg, Mettlach, Saarlouis, and Völklingen before finally reaching Saarbrücken.
Presumably, the new line was congested at this point. After enjoying a good view of Ulm Minster’s tower, the train speeds through Augsburg to Munich.
We only have a short stop in Munich and quickly change to the regional train to Chiemsee. Despite having lived in Munich for 30 years, we have never taken this train, which passes just 500 meters from our former home on Implerstraße. The journey offers new perspectives of the city, such as Sendling with the Großmarkthalle, the Großer Stadtbach, and the Isar with the Heizkraftwerk Süd.

At Ostbahnhof, we pass the Werksviertel-Mitte and the Ten Towers, a modern office complex consisting of ten towers connected by a skywalk.

The journey then quickly continues across the Bavarian countryside to Rosenheim. There, we cross the Inn, pass the Simssee, and reach Prien am Chiemsee.
A good friend picks us up at the train station and takes us to Hotel Luitpold am See, located at the harbor of Lake Chiemsee. It is only then that we notice the Chiemseebahn, a historic tourist train that goes directly to the train station, starts here as well.

We will stay at the Hotel Luitpold for the next two days and enjoy the magnificent view of the lake, harbor, and Alps.
