From Langar to the Pamir Highlands

This is our last stop in the Wakhan Valley before we drive from Langar to the Pamir Highlands.

After saying goodbye to our nice hosts we start early in the morning towards Alichur.

Behind the village, a narrow road leads steeply uphill into the highlands of Pamir.

En route we have a fantastic view of the valley. From time to time we meet locals who often walk long distances on foot. After 30 minutes of driving and overcoming some altitude, we suddenly meet Charlie again.

He probably stayed in the tent and has a flat tire. He had to change both tires. Thus, his night could not have taken too long. Full of admiration for his deeds, we left him behind; Of course, we wished him all the best.

We follow the Pamir, which forms the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. In Langar, it unites with the Wakhan River to the Panj River. The street is only a macadam, but the view of the Hindu Kush is excellent.

Partly the valley of the Pamir was deep below us, but in the meantime, the river is at the same level as the road. In the meantime, we are at 3650 m above sea level.

Now the landscape changes fundamentally. The deeply cut valleys are behind us. In front of us are flat plains in a relatively hilly landscape. We see two camels lying sideways. We are happy to meet such animals here.

The street runs in large parts straight ahead now. Only some cyclists approach us. They, too, have our respect.

Suddenly we see a whole herd of camels on an island in the river. This time we’ll take a closer look at them (in the next video).
