As the coronation place of the German kings and since Charlemagne, capital and residence of the German kingdom, Aachen was already known in early times beyond the borders of the Empire.
It is therefore not surprising that one of the most important Christmas markets in Germany has developed here.
Remarkable is the location of the Aachen Christmas market, both between the Aachen Cathedral and the Town Hall (the former Aula Regia), as well as in a circle around it.
The area covers the area from Elisenbrunnen fountain, Katschhof square to the Market square.
A unique specialty is the popular Aachener Printen, a type of gingerbread that has existed since 1820. In the meantime, Aachener Printen is a protected designation of origin.
Every year, one expects more than 1.5 million visitors at the Aachen Christmas market.

A lot of restaurants and Cafes participate in the Christmas market.
Nearly all major bus lines stop at the Elisenbrunnen fountain so that you can easily access the market by public transport.
