Today, the Batteria Vettor Pisano lies behind the southern coastal strip of Cavallino-Treporti. In 1909, when one started with the construction of the fastening system, the sea reached the walls. By accumulation of sand, the coastal strip grows on average 10 m per year.

The Artillery battery should protect Venice from hostile naval organizations, primarily from the Austro-Hungarian fleet. At that time, it was not the only one. Further coastal artillery batteries were set up at the same time: San Marco, Radaelli, and Amalfi.
From the Marina di Venezia, Batteria Pisano is easily accessible by bike. The drive of the 3.2 km away takes about 10 minutes.

The friendly and knowledgeable guide Katia shows us around. She speaks German very well and leaves no question unanswered.
Only in recent years, one restored the mighty concrete walls. Since 24 May 2017, the Batteria Pisano is open again.

Innumerable embrasures also should stop the enemies from the land side. Two powerful telemetric towers form the central defense elements.

An Artesian well provided the complex with water.

A longish hall connects the two towers. It houses an exhibition of uniforms, weapon system and equipment. The newest exhibit is a water-cooled machine-gun that was found in the lagoon.

One is particularly proud of the extensive medical equipment which was already used at that time. The track of the narrow gauge railroad still can be seen in the hall. At first, the train transported the building material and then the heavy guns.

From the telemetric towers, you have a beautiful view over the headland.

More InformationAt that time one built many telemetric towers along the coast. These viewpoints served to watch the impacts, to correct the data for the guns, and to report them back to the batteries.
