In the evening, Berlin appears in a completely different atmosphere. The Kurfürstendamm (Ku’damm) has evolved over the last two decades to a shopping mall.

Between the shops and cinemas there are still scattered restaurants. Only one bar, which we will visit later, remained unchanged in the old style.

First we move towards the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the Bahnhof Zoo station, to take the line 200 to Potsdam Square. We pass the Berlin Philharmonie and the Chamber Music Hall. From Potsdam Square we walk the short distance to the Brandenburg Gate, which we would like to see the illumination. From a distance we see the Reichstag building with its illuminated glass dome.

More InformationAt the Potsdam Square we take a look at the old facade of the Hotel Esplanade, which had to be integrated into the Sony Center.

Back on the Ku’damm, we enjoy our dinner in the restaurant Knese in Knesebeckstrasse. The restaurant is part of the Plaza Hotel. In old Berlin atmosphere, you can eat Berlin specialties as well as classics such as Wiener Schnitzel.

We end our evening in the King’s pub, the last bar in the old style at Kurfuerstendamm. As long as Berlin was surrounded by the wall, the night life primarily took place around the Kurfürstendamm. At that time Bars and many discos turned night into day.

The owner of the King’s Pub told about the old days and how life in Berlin has changed since the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
