Brasilia is located on a high plateau at an altitude of 1158 m in the Brazilian Federal District.
The decision to build a new capital was already made in 1891. However, the inauguration took place not until 1960. The architecture was influenced by Oscar Niemeyer.
The basic idea for the city map was a cross with the National Congress with its Twin Towers on top and in front of it the Praça dos Três Poderes (place of the three forces) with the Supreme Court of Justice and the Presidential Palace.
Since 1987, Brasilia is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
