The Hotel-Restaurant Ca L’Arpa is in the center of Banyoles near the Placa Major.
The house, built in 1910, was the home of the family of the owner Pere Arpa. In 2008, Pere converted it to a restaurant with an attached 4-star hotel.

Large glass windows allow a glimpse to whats happening in the shiny stainless kitchen and provide a view of a small wine cellar. Nothing remains concealed.
Pere is an expert in interpreting the local cooking with regional products. His wife Montse Lao rounds off the offer by an extensive selection of excellent organic wines. During the menu Montse Lao and Pere Arpa gave us detailled information about the individual components.
Our menu begins with ravioli of apples and black pudding, accompanied by a wine from the Finca Olvidardots. The wine was produced by a female winemaker. It has matured in ceramic barrels.
The following, perfect presented dishes – ricotta and plum, sweet and sour terrine of pig’s head with onions, sweet sausage of liver and curry butter, marinaded sardines on a chickpea puree with sunflower seeds – were true culinary delicacies as well.
Montse Lao served a wine in a simple bottle without label. It was a biodynamic wine. The Biodynamic viticulture goes back to the teachings of the Austrian Anthroposophist Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925).
The biodynamic winemakers are working in harmony with nature and must apply very stringent measures in biological control. The wine was produced by a Swiss on his winery Bell-Lloc near Palamos.
Afterwards Pere served a knuckle of veal on parmentier potatoes that literally melt in the mouth.
Passion fruit on mascarpone, a selection of sweets and a coffee rounded off the menu.
After the exquisite menu Pere showed us around the house.
The 4-star hotel
In the breakfast room, he told us that he and his wife originally dealt with Art and Design. We could see some of his art works in the hotel.
During a conference in Barcelona, the Michelin star chef Mey Hofmann brought art and gastronomy together. Through the contact with the chefs of haute cuisine, Peres discovered his passion for cooking, that has not changed to this day. A good decision, which was crowned with a Michelin star every year since 2006.
Sweet delicacies from Banyoles, such as Tortada, an almond cake, or Cansalada, a cookie with icing sugar, are produced in his own bakery. One can purchase these, as well as home-made jam and excellent wines in a salesroom.
The lovingly designed 8 rooms convey the visitor the charm and hospitality of an old family inns. When designing emphasis was placed on high-quality materials. Oil treated natural wood floors, Roche Bobois furniture and chaise lounges paired with stylish Bang & Olufsen devices provide a cozy, elegant atmosphere.
