Unfortunately, our short visit in Helsinki is over. We have reached the farthest point from home and now move back in the direction of our home again. Next destination is the capital of Estonia, Tallinn.
We take the ferry M/S Star of the ferry ship shipping company Tallink. The ferry needs about 2.5 hours for the approx. 80 km.
On the Ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn
It is a beautiful morning when we arrive at the terminal in the west harbor of Helsinki. The ferry lies ready to go at the pier.
The cruise ship Costa Pacifica lies at anchor on the opposite side. With a capacity of more 3700 passengers, it belongs already to the greater ones.
We watch the trucks and cars for a while before they disappear in the hull of our ship.
After the harbor, we pass the island of Pihlajasaari with its beaches; one says the most beautiful beaches of Helsinki.
We leave Helsinki behind us and sail to the other side of the Gulf of Finland. The four-legged passengers made themselves look beautiful.
As long as we only see water around, we use the time to eat a snack. Every now and then a ferry approaches us in a reversed direction. Then the silhouette of Tallin appears on the horizon.
Next door to the modern skyscrapers, we recognize the medieval church steeples and the hill with the Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral with its typical onion towers.
After laying out the ship we take a cab and let us drive to our hotel. You can reach the old town in approx. 15 min on foot. But we didn’t want to walk with all our luggage.
