In the late afternoon we take the AVE (high speed train) from Sevilla to Cordoba. The the 140 km long train ride only takes 45 minutes, so that we can enjoy an evening in Cordoba.

We have booked a small hotel in the old city near the Plaza de las Tendillas (place of small shops), in order to explore the city on foot.
Plaza de las Tendillas
Although the shops are no longer small, as the name of the place suggests, the architecture of the buildings around the square is impressive.

In the middle of the Plaza de las Tendillas stands the equestrian statue of the Gran Capitán
Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba
Its higher career began under Queen Isabella, who declared him a commander of the troops against Charles VIII of France in support of King Ferdinand II of Naples.

More InformationHe quickly ousted the French, but they came back. After their extermination Gonzalo Fernández was appointed Viceroy of Naples. He won the popularity of the population through prudent and wise exercise of official functions, however aroused the jealousy of King Ferdinand. Ferdinand ordered him back to Spain, where he lived a reclusive life for another 9 years.
Roman temple of Córdoba
In front of the modern Town Hall in Calle Claudio Marcelo, we find the remains of a Roman temple from the first century, the era of Flavius.

It was one of the main buildings of imperial cult that existed in Cordoba. The Pseudo Peripteral, hexastyle building of white marble was designed according to the model of the temple of Apollo Palatinus in Rome.
Plaza de la Corredera
The square strongly reminds us of the Plaza Major in Madrid. It is surrounded on all four sides by arcades, which are only interrupted by a market in the south.
Originally it was a prison which was bought by José Sánchez Peña later and turned into the most modern factory in Cordoba. The square itself has been used repeatedly for public festivals, also bullfights were organized here.

We are lucky that the Festival de los Patios de Cordoba, including flamenco performances, takes place.

So we enjoy the expressive music and the dance, performed by Javier Navarro (guitar), Begona Castro (dance) and Charo Martin and Javier Rivera (vocals).
