When people say Flamenco, some immediately think of a Spanish dance. However, Flamenco describes an art form that presents itself both in song and in dance.

Flamenco has its origins in Andalusia and grew out of a fusion of Andalusian folk music with oriental music of the gitanos (Romani people in Spain).
In 1427, Romani, originating from India, settled in Andalusia. On their long journey through the Orient, Asia and Europe their music has been influenced by different cultures.

For Spaniards as well as for flamenco enthusiast, the song (cante) is the most important element.
The dance (el baile) is very expressive and was initially only accompanied with sounds, such as tapping, clapping and finger snapping. Since the 16th century the dance is also accompanied by the guitar.
On the occasion of the Festival de Patios de Cordoba concerts take place on different locations. We visit a flamenco concert at the Plaza de la Corredera, the largest square in the city.
Enjoy two performances from the program Mujeres Flamenco.
