For our trip from Vilnius to Warsaw in Poland, we take the bus again. We leave the Baltics and a distance of 560 km lies ahead of us. The trip starts at 15.15 in Vilnius and leads to the west through larger industrial districts. The companies make a very modern impression from the outside.

The first stop is in Kaunas. The city was often attacked by the Teutonic Order, but could not be taken. From 1920 to 1940 Kaunas was the provisional capital of Lithuania since Vilnius was occupied by Poland at that time. Traditionally Kaunas has a strong textile industry. But also art plays a very important role in Kaunas. That is why in 2022, Kaunas will be European Capital of Culture, together with Esch in Luxembourg.

We drive southwest to Marijampole, the last major city before the border with Poland.

At the border, we experience a surprise. We are controlled by customs officers and even have to get out and open our suitcases.

The Schengen area turned out to be different than we had imagined.

Via Suwalken it goes to Augustow. Here we notice plenty of waterways with excursion boats. This would have been a nice vacation spot if we had more time. In the further course to Bialystock, the darkness erupts over the land, so that filming becomes almost impossible.
Only in the center of Bialystock, we can still see the tower of St. Roch’s Church in the light of the street lamps.

Only in Warsaw, the lights of the city illuminate the surroundings again. We reach the city after midnight. Unfortunately, at that time there is no underground from the bus station anymore. But we are lucky and find a friendly taxi driver, who also helps us to find the entrance to our new accommodation, which is a bit hidden.
In Warsaw, we booked an apartment, the Aleja Jana Pawła II 18. It is located in the middle of the financial district next to the Metro, surrounded by skyscrapers. The apartment is not quite as nice as that in Vilnius, but it fully meets our requirements for 3 days, including free WiFi.

In the meantime, it seems that it has been renovated.

More InformationAlthough it is very late. we are hungry. Therefore we go out in a search for something to eat. Again, we are lucky again and find a pizzeria not too far away, which is open 24 hours. And the pizza tasted very good.
