We are now in Spain since more than 4 weeks, and it’s time to go back home. Exploring a country by the high-speed train was a new travel experience for us and we enjoyed it very much. It is wonderful to overcome large distances without having stress.

Opposite the car you save considerable costs and time and primarily nerves. Especially in countries where you have to pay a toll for the motorways.
Compared with the aircraft, the time savings is not quite as big, but it has the advantage not to be permanently limited to the weight of the luggage. As we are always on the move with filming equipment, it fits well our needs.

More InformationOn the way back we had to take the bus from Granada to Antequera, but then it goes on directly with the AVE- Renfe high-speed train to Barcelona.

We were surprised that the train did not stop in Madrid. We see two reasons for this. First, Renfe knows by the seat reservation where passengers are boarding or leaving the train. If there is no one, the train passes through.
The second reason might be, that passengers who want to go to Madrid or from Madrid to Barcelona, don’t get the train suggested at the booking. Anyway, the system seems to be very efficient.
Another advantage is the punctuality of the AVE-Renfe high-speed trains. A deviation of 5 minutes from the target time was the maximum.

We stay one more night in Barcelona. The next morning we take the Renfe-SNCF high-speed train to Paris and then continue to Germany.
So have managed the way from Granada to Germany within two days and arrive relaxed at home. It is hardly surprising that the weather in Germany is significantly worse than in southern Spain.

For city breaks in Spain, we can only recommend the AVE-Renfe high-speed trains and a Renfe Spain Pass saves you even money.

This is a wonderful post. The information is very helpful in planning a trip through Spain. We used a combination of trains and buses in Spain. The buses were cheaper but I found the trains more relaxing.
Thank you very much for your positive feedback.
Indeed, the buses are very cheap in Spain. We also used them for short distances. But for long distance I would always prefer a high-speed train 🙂
