The Koninginnedag (Queen’s Day) is the national holiday in the Netherlands. Traditionally, the birthday of Queen is celebrated.
From 2014, it will be celebrated as Koningsdag (King’s Day) on April 27th, in honor of King Willem-Alexander.
However in 2014 it will be celebrated on the 26th, since the 27th of April is a Sunday and the national holiday is then moved forward a day.
Besides concerts and folk festivals, flea markets are held nationwide. Amsterdam’s streets almost form a single sales booth. On Koninginnedag anyone can sell tax free.
