At the end of our stay in Budapest, we visit Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube.
Today, it is a popular excursion and recreation area with several swimming pools, thermal baths, sports facilities, large parks, and meadows. Historically significant sites can also be found here.

The ruins of a Dominican convent, where St. Margaret once lived, are open to the public. King Béla IV and his wife Maria Laskaris of Nicaea had promised to give their unborn child to the Dominican order in case of victory over the Mongol cavalry hordes, which they did after the Mongol withdrawal. Margaret lived here until her death, leading an ascetic and God-fearing life. She was canonized in 1943. A precious crown and the tomb of Stephen V were also found here.

From Budapest West Station, we take the bus to the northern tip of Margaret Island.

From the Szállodák bus stop (F02498), we walk through the Japanese Garden to the Bodor Fountain, which plays a musical melody every hour.

From here, we walk south past the Water Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site,

Palatinus Strand Bath, the ruins of a Franciscan monastery, Holdudvar Hall, the Centennial Monument,

and Margaret Bridge, where we enjoy the view.

As we walk, we admire the giant trees and the diversity of plants.

Our stay is nearing the end, and we reflect on our impressions of this city. The city surprised us with its modern and attractive appearance. It also makes a very innovative impression on us. It has changed over the last 20 years and can only be recommended for a visit. In 4 days, we got a lot of impressions, but we are sure there is much more to discover.

Satisfied, we start our journey home. Along the Danube near Komarno, we can have another look at Slovakia.

It is also noticeable that the closer we get to Austria, the more wind turbines dot the landscape.

Once we arrive at the central station, we head southeast. We have booked another hotel nearby, the Prize by Radisson, Vienna City.

Again, we are surprised by the modern and innovative look of the interior. We are glad to have found this hotel.

The following morning, we go back to Germany by train.
