Visitors, interested in Canadian culture, should not miss a visit of the Parliament in Ottawa.
The buildings of the parliament consist of three edifices, the East Block, Centre Block and the West Block. Free guided tours are offered for the individual buildings. Tickets are available at the visitor’s entrance below the Peace Tower.
We visited the Centre Block with Commons Chamber and the Senate. In the imposing Senate Foyer you can see rare portraits of the Queen.
The ceremonial baton of the government spokesman amidst the flags of the provinces underlines the influence of British culture. In 1916, a fire destroyed the Centre Block in large parts; it was rebuilt again until 1920.
