At 1 a.m local time in St. Petersburg we leave this great city again. Our stay was far too short, but we could gain a small insight.

As a farewell, the pilot bestows us with a fantastic view of the illuminated city. In the scene after that, we see brightly lit fields. As far as we could find out, this is vegetable growing.
Looking ahead, we try to concentrate on what is next. First, a trip from Dushanbe via the Pamir Highway and the Wakhan Valley to Osh. Afterwards, we start a round trip through Kyrgyzstan and finally through Uzbekistan.

After 2.5 hours flight, the sun already rises again. After 3 hours we recognize the remains of the Aral Sea. The reflection of the sun in the water clearly shows the Syr Darya river.

Unfortunately, a lot of water is taken from this river that a drying up of the Aral Sea can be hardly avoided. We fly on over the Kyzylkum Desert and pass the Aydar Lake. At that time, we do not know that we will swim there in four weeks.
