More InformationAt that time, Xian, known as Chang’an, was the capital of the Chinese Empire. With over a million inhabitants, it was the largest city in the world at that time. Presumably, the story of Empress Wu Zhao (690-705), also known as Wu Zetian, is told here. She is said to have slowly poisoned Emperor Tang Gaozong.
She murdered her firstborn son and several people, yet she seemed to have been popular with Buddhists, the secret police, and large sections of the people.
