The Tibidabo is the local mountain of Barcelona. It is 512 m hight and if the weather is fine, you have a fantastic panoramic view above Barcelona.

More InformationBy Metro we drive to the Placa John F. Kennedy. It is Sunday and therefore the historic tram takes us from the Avenida del Tibidabo to the valley station of the funicular railway which brings us on top the mountain.

Instead of the tram, you can take a bus, which is also cheaper.
With loud creaking and groaning, the trolley pushes up the mountain. Despite the considerable slope it is making rapid progress. At the terminus there are a restaurant and a cafe, which grant a beautiful view of Barcelona.
It’s foggy and therefore we doubt whether it would be a good idea to go up the mountain. In the hope that it brightens up, we opt for the ride. Once at the top, our fears prove well-founded. The visibility is poor.

But the amusement park is full of life. Families and children have their fun!

On top of the Tibidabo sits the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor. The church was designed by the Catalan architect Enric Sagnier and completed between 1902 and 1961 in several stages of construction. In the fog patches, the impressive church in neo-Gothic style appears even more mystical.
Disappointed by the poor visibility we go back to the valley. The next day we start a new attempt.

The weather is gorgeous as is the view and we get our desired panoramic views.

Our eyes wander across the Sagrada Familia, the Placa Espanya, the stadium of FC Barcelona

and the Torre de Collserola.

The 280-meter-high television tower was built by the British architect Norman Foster for the Summer Olympics in 1992.

Pleased with this day, we take our way back the valley.
