Passing the exhibition center, we reach the WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business). It impresses with its modern architecture.
The University Library (Library & Learning Center), designed by Zaha Hadid, is particularly worth seeing and is also the central heart of the WU campus. More than 20,000 students can pursue their studies here.
We take the subway and bus to the Spittelau waste incineration plant, whose facade was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The plant heats over 60,000 apartments with district heating and generates 40,000 MWh of electricity annually.
The flue gas cleaning system is state of the art. Guided tours are available but must be booked several days in advance.
This part of our walk through Vienna ends at the Naschmarkt. We want to revisit the market before the redesign begins in the fall of 2024.
There are plans for more green spaces with trees, an expansion of the bike paths, and a new covered hall with a viewing terrace open on the sides.
With about 150 stalls, the Naschmarkt is the largest market in Vienna. It offers fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, and pastries from Austria, Eastern Europe, Greece, and East Asia. The redesign also aims to expand the range of events on offer.
