Zürs and Lech, next to St. Anton, are the most fashionable ski resorts in the Arlberg region in Austria.
We drive across the Flexen Pass road towards Zürs. The road, evidence of high of engineering, nestles picturesquely to the rock face and is largely safe for winter due to canopies and tunnels.
In summer, Zürs is like a ghostly village. The hotels and guesthouses, all of upper category, are orphaned and locked. Only few inhabitants stay in summer. In early December the place awakes again from its slumber. Our husky enjoyed the fresh air and the wonderful view.
Only a few kilometres away lies Lech am Arlberg. The area around Lech was settled by the Walsers, Swiss immigrant from the Valais.
Today, Lech am Arlberg is considered as richest municipality of Austria. The source of this wealth is the winter tourism but the summery tourism gradually increases too. Nevertheless, the mountain village has kept its quiet character.
