After our arrival in Osh, we want to eat a snack before we go to the guesthouse. Our driver Khodaverdi takes us to the Brio, a well-known bistro in the city.
Bentleys and other monstrous cars, which we did not expect, park in front of the Brio. The building that looks like a Soviet prefabricated building is called House of Luck. It is the registry office of Osh! Bridal pairs have high demands on the on the means of transport for their wedding.
We start a conversation with the drivers and owners of the cars. Eithne, our Irish travel companion, can take a seat in one of the Bentleys. She would presumably have enjoyed taking the car along.
One of the car owners gives me his business card and I can see that he does not only rents cars but also drones. Of course, I immediately ask him what is allowed in Kyrgyzstan. He says, in principle everything, except flights over airports and military facilities. I dig deeper whether it would be allowed to start a drone flight right here; He looks a bit surprised at me and says of course. Obviously, I have arrived here in the drone paradise! After our questions about cars and drones, the bystanders want to know more about our cameras.
Then we get something to eat and drink, which tasted very good.
When we arrived at the guesthouse Eco House, the Osh festival poster which we have already seen in our accommodation in Sary Mogol immediately attracts our eye.The festival takes place two days later. The USAID BGI Project, who have invited us to Kyrgyzstan, organized the Osh Festival together with Destination Osh. Of course, we also want to visit this festival.
But first, we take a shower, which functions perfectly. Immediately we are reconciled with the world, especially after the sanitary facilities of the last days in the Pamir that urgently need improvement.
The Guesthouse Eco House has everything we need. Air conditioning, TV, and free WiFi work perfect and we are reconnected with the rest of the world.
During our stay in Kyrgyzstan, the USAID Business Growth Initiative (BGI) Project has also kindly provided us with a drone. It is a brand new Phantom 4 advanced. After unpacking, we first have to charge the battery packs. And as this is usual with a new drone, updates wait to be installed. In Germany, we have a Phantom 3 Pro, and the update procedure works completely different. So we are then busy the next two evenings.
When we return to the Eco House after dinner, there are two cars from the Mongol Rally 2017 in front of the hotel. They belong to the Americans from the team “Yak to Yak Champs and a Briton and a Dutchman from the team “Starsky and Dutch”. The Mongol Rally is not a rally in the classical sense, but a charity event. No matter if you’re first or last, arriving is everything.
