The Marina di Venezia campsite is in Punta Sabbioni, a part of the municipality of Cavallino-Trepori. Of course, we also want to get to know the surroundings and so an excursion in Cavallino-Treporti is on the program. From the campsite, we drive along Via Fausta to a agricultural holding.

The Via Fausta was once planned by Benito Mussolini and should be a straight connection from Cavallino to Venice. It was never finished, so it ends in Punta Sabbioni.
Azienda Agricola Valleri Stefano
About halfway to Cavallino, we reach the Azienda Agricola Valleri Stefano. Stefano, the owner awaits us already and introduces us to his sister Valleri Daniela and an employee, who both work in this agricultural holding.

It is the only agricultural holding in the region that not only grows vegetables but also processes them in-house to the finished product, with the exception of frozen foods.
The tour of the approx. 5ha large farm begins with the salad cultivation. On pure sea sand, the lettuce is planted, fertilized and harvested with the help of machines. In the period from 1 to 2 weeks, one works on single fields. One operates environmentally friendly. By crop rotation, one minimizes e.g antiparasitic interventions.

Stefano also tells us the story of the agricultural holding, which is already run by the third generation.
1966 was a fateful year when a high water flooded the country. Until then, the farmers mainly cultivated fruit trees on the peninsula. But after the flood, the fruit trees suffered from the sea salt that had come with the water.
To survive, many farms switched to vegetable cultivation at that time. Vegetables are better able to cope with the salt and promise a quick yield. Today, Stefano Valleri supplies the markets in Padua and Udine, as well as the Marina di Venezia.

Besides salad, he grows pumpkins, zucchini, tomatoes and aromatic plants. For the production of his aromatic plants, he obtained the certification from Organic Agriculture, in 1999. To date, all aromatic plants are certified organic by ICEA (Institute for Environmental Ethics Certification).

It is interesting to learn more about growing herbs like rosemary or basil. Automatic irrigation of countless plants is self-evident.
In his machine hall, Stefano shows us his latest achievements. Machines for drying and packaging vegetables. Here he produces his newest product, the Veggy Snacks. This new snack is not only tasty and crunchy but also healthy.
Selected Italian vegetables are only dried and thus contain no oil or food preservative. The Veggy Snacks are available in supermarkets and via the internet. On the international food exhibition in Parma 2018, the Veggy Snacks were among the 100 most innovative products of Italy.

After the tour, all products are lined up on a table in the yard and we are invited to taste. Everything looks appetizing and also tastes excellent. And a prosecco should not be missed.

Tickets & Tours
We continue by car and drive along the shore of the lagoon to the jetty of Cavallino. Three boats of the tour operator Tickets & Tours expect us here.

More InformationThe company offers tours to various adventure and water parks, boat and island tours in the lagoon. Furthermore, you can book tours to Venice, museum and palace visits, and wine tours in the region. There is also a boat and Vespa rental and more recently Segway tours. You can also book the tours directly at the Marina di Venetia.

With the boats, we sail through various channels to the Valle Olivara, where one can easily moore. Miki Barone is our captain.

The drive through the Lido leads through bird sanctuaries. You can watch them everywhere. There is a peaceful and nice atmosphere.

In different shades of blue and gray, the water surface and the sky blur on the horizon. On the way, we see two rowing boats with children.
A former Italian Olympic champion in rowing trains some children, who seem to enjoy it.

Valle Olivara

Massimo Battaglio had bicycles from the Marina di Venetia brought to Valle Olivara. Even for the children of Martin and Magdalena children’s bikes are ready. The son of Enzo and his wife is only 3.5 years and allowed to ride on an extra child seat.
Unfortunately, one bike is too much, so Massimo has to drive with two bikes for a while. Fortunately, a school bus passes by, which also goes to the marina. Massimo can give the superfluous bicycle to the driver.
Lio Piccolo
Next stop is Lio Piccolo. The small settlement consists of a former palazzo, a church with a tall tower and a residential building. Here lives the last inhabitant of the place, an 85-year-old lady lives alone.

Usually, the tower is closed, only if a private guardian takes over the supervision, the tower may be climbed. Massimo has organized everything. The friendly Livio opened the tower for us and we can enjoy the view from the top.

The palazzo was built in 1698 by the Venezian merchant Domenico Cottini. The Venezian family Boldu purchased Lio Piccolo in 1777 and added one floor. Today the building is abandoned.

The church dates from 1791 and the tower from 1911.

Saccagnana

After another three kilometers through a very picturesque lagoon landscape we make a short stop in Saccagnana. Around the square in front of the church of Santa Vergine del Carmine we find some picturesque houses.

Here is also the mansion Zanella from the first half of XVI. Century. It was completely renovated between 1996 and 1998 and is a good example of a Venetian villa in the lagoon.

Locanda Zanella – Treporti
2 km later, we arrive at the main square of Treporti. The aperitif awaits us in the Venetian Restaurant Locanda Zanella.

For the lunch, we first enjoy different starters with fish.

As main course, we eat two different risottos. And finally, one serves a selection of several delicious desserts.

It is a typical restaurant where you meet after work and enjoy a glass of wine with friends.

We continue our ride and in Via degli Armeni, we come upon three old Venetian galleons which serve for pirates and dinner cruises. The journeys are also offered by Tickets & Tours.

Past at the forte Treporti o forte Vecchio, we reach the Piazzale di Lio Grando and drive to via Fausta. After this great excursion, we take the Via Hermada back to Marina di Venezia.
