The AVE – Renfe high speed train from Madrid to Seville only needs two hours for the more than 400 km long route.

We still have almost a whole day in Madrid, ride relaxed to Seville and arrive there just on time for the dinner and a small stroll through the town. It couldn’t get any more convenient and time saving!

After the train has left Madrid, the track runs quite some time through the Meseta Central, the highlands of Castile. The region is used for cultivation of grain, sheep breeding and for wine and olive cultivation.
Politically it is part of the autonomous communities Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha. One could easily imagine how Don Quijote rides on his nag Rosinante through the countryside, accompanied by Sancho Panza.

More InformationAfterwards it gets more interesting for the eye since the train crosses the Sierra Morena. Through tunnels and across viaducts, the route leads through a rugged landscape. We pass the railway station of Puertollano, a former coal mining site.
Today, solar cells and petrochemical products are produced here. This is typical of this old mining region; a number of mining sites were closed down and the surrounding villages partially abandoned, such as Minas del Horcajo. Occasionally, lynxes and wolves can be found in this area.

Just behind the mountainous region, we reach the plains of the Guadalquivir, the river which flows through both Cordoba and Seville. We, however, leave Cordoba to our left and reach Seville ahead of schedule.
