Our sightseeing tour with an electric car continues through countless streets of the Old Town, past the Hoan Kiem Lake to Hanoi Cathedral.
St. Joseph’s Cathedral
Even if he real name is St. Joseph’s Cathedral, it is also called Nha Lon Lon Ha Noi, which means small Notre Dame of Hanoi.
This does not refer to Notre-Dame in Paris, but to the Church of Our Lady in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), which we will present later.
In front of the cathedral is a statue of the Virgin Mary.
The church was built in 1886 by the French, so it is not surprising that it has a certain similarity to Notre-Dame in Paris. In 1960, Pope John XXIII raised the Apostolic Vicariate of Hanoi to the status of an archbishopric.
Since 1976, all Archbishops were were chosen cardinals. Das Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi includes 400,000 members.
Afterwards we drive around the Hoan Kiem Lake and return to our starting point.
