La Orotava lies in the north of the Canary Island Tenerife, approx. 5 km away from Puerto de la Cruz, 400 m above sea-level.
The town of La Orotava is known for its beautiful view over the valley of Puerto de la Cruz and his orchards with wine and bananas. The Orotava Valley has a mild climate and fertile soil and it is one of the tourist centers in Tenerife, where the tourism could not destroy the cultural picture of the island here. The historic town center of La Orotava is under a preservation order since 1974.
Certainly, the most famous street is the Calle San Francisco. The house No. 3, Casa de los Balcones, the house of balconies, was built in 1632 in typical Canarian style. The three-story house with its lovely inner courtyard takes its name from the many small wooden balconies.
Today, the ground floor houses a training center for Canarian handicraft, which has already been awarded several times for education and popularization of handicraft. The typical embroidery and local products are offered to the visitors in the adjacent salesrooms.
