Lago Martianez – the famous seawater swimming pools are located right next to the promenade Avenida Colon in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
The almost 30.000 square metres large open-air swimming pool complex consists of several pools, islands, restaurants and mattress areas. The pools are fed with seawater directly from the Atlantic. The Spanish artist César Manrique created Lago Martianez in 1971. Here, he has harmoniously combined nature and architecture.
Various plants and works of art were integrated into the landscape. The entire complex is under monument protection.
The artificial landscape is directly connected with the natural coast with its surf. The swimming pools are very popular with both locals and tourists, because bathing can be very dangerous in the surf of Puerto de la Cruez. 3 pools are especially for children where they can play in the shallow water.
Lago Martianez opens daily from 10 a.m to 7 p.m during the summer and from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during winter.
